| Description: | Fabric-Free Bead and Sequin Cocktail Dress | |
| Designed By: | Gail Be, American, United States, 2004 Refurbished 2007 | |
| Materials Used: | This super sexy, richly hued dress is made from over 150,000 beads and sequins and took five people over 9 months to complete. The weave is so tight that it looks like material--but don't be fooled--there is absolutely no fabric used to create this dress! Each individual loop was hand-woven with Japanese silver lined beads and then adorned with a Modern Swarovski crystal. | |
| Fashion Facts: | The original dress was completed in 2005 but we went back and added thousands of more beads in 2008 to make it even MORE dazzling than before. | |
| Designer Insider: | The beads I used to create the jewelry were made from rare Swarovski vintage beads. The necklace was the first piece I designed for my Museum Jewelry Collection. It ended up coming out so exquisite that I felt the only way to bring it real justice was to create an entire outfit around it. Most people called me "nuts" spending nine months to create a whole beaded dress just to match a necklace—but I have never been afraid of a little insanity and Thank God, I am always up for an artistic challenge. | |
| History: | All the vintage Swarovski crystal beads used are in pristine condition. They were manufactured in Austria between 1920 - 1938 and 1945 - 1960. To prove their authenticity, I have the honor of taking them directly from their original Aidelweiss-logoed K.S and D.S Swarovski packages. | |
